What is #GivingTuesday™?

#GivingTuesday™ (#GT) is a national movement to create a day of giving added to the calendar on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The sixth annual GivingTuesday is on Tuesday, November 28, 2017.

How does my nonprofit organization become a participant in #YorkCountySCGives?

Very easily! Please click HERE for the participant form. Eligible #YorkCountySCGives participants must be a registered, 501(c)3 non-profit with a service and program area that includes York County. Participating nonprofits are not required to accept online giving via their website in order to participate, although we do encourage it. Once you sign up and complete the participant form, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. Information will be uploaded in the participant section within 7 business days. We encourage nonprofits to register before as soon as possible to take advantage of the excitement and exposure of #YorkCountySCGives in the weeks leading up to #GivingTuesday.

Who can give?

Families, individuals, businesses, organizations, community groups are encouraged to be generous in whatever ways matter to them—whether that means volunteering for one or more of the #YorkCountySCGives participants or donating to a favorite cause.

What is #YorkCountySCGives?

#YorkCountySCGives is part of the national celebration of generosity. It’s a day to build awareness and give a gift that makes an impact—right here in York County. #YorkCountySCGives gives you the chance to contribute to important causes in our city.

Can my organization receive donations through the #YorkCountySCGives website?

No. #YorkCountySCGives website will link to the webpages of participating nonprofit organizations; it does not accept or distribute donations. All donations must be made directly to the participating nonprofit, either in person, by mail or online through their websites. Givolio has partnered with #YorkCountySCGives to give participating nonprofits that do not have an online giving option. For more information on Givolio click HERE.

Does #YorkCountySCGives recommend where to donate or volunteer?

No. #YorkCountySCGives does not recommend, support or endorse any specific participating non-profit. Charity Navigator and Guidestar enable donors to access relevant information before making a donation.

What exactly is an #unselfie?

Think of an #unselfie as an unselfish selfie – it can be YOUR way of “giving.” It’s simple to do:

  • Show your support for #GivingTuesday and #YorkCountySCGives by taking a picture with our official #unselfie signs here.
  • Tag it #unselfie; #GivingTuesday; and #YorkCountySCGives
  • Upload it to your Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook pages from now until Giving Tuesday.

Who can participate?

501(c)3 organizations who serve York County are eligible to participate in #YorkCountySCGives as participating nonprofit organizations. Businesses may participate as supporting partners by choosing one of several options of support.

Why should I become a #YorkCountySCGives participant?

In 2012, more than 2,500 recognized #GivingTuesday™ participants from all 50 states of the United States took part in the movement. The collective efforts of partners, donors and advocates helped fuel a marked increase in charitable giving on GivingTuesday. Blackbaud processed over $10 million in online donations on 11/27/12 – a 53% increase when compared to the Tuesday after Thanksgiving the previous year. DonorPerfect recorded a 46% increase in online donations and the average gift increased 25%. More than 50 million people worldwide spread the word about GivingTuesday – resulting in milestone trending on Twitter.

Imagine the impact that nonprofits in York County can make with a 50% increase in their donations.

How do I receive donation documentation for my records and tax purposes?

Participating non-profits will provide appropriate and necessary donation documentation through their respective offices. If you have additional questions pertaining to this matter, please contact the non-profit you support directly. What is an “unselfie” and why should I take one?

An unselfie is photo that is not about you. The unselfie is not about showing off or advertising how virtuous you are being. It is a way of saying, this cause is important to me—and seeing that, the people who take an interest in you may be inspired to look more deeply into the causes you support, or to think about the causes that matter to them.

How to take an “unselfie”

  1. Take a piece of paper and write the name of a charity you support with your time or money or download one of our #unselfiesigns HERE.
  2. Take your picture holding up the piece of paper in front of you.
  3. Upload the photo to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media channels and remember to include the hashtags #YorkCountySCGives #GivingTuesday #UNselfie
